Tambour Cupboards

Tambour cupboards are a recent addition to office furniture ranges. Their key feature is that they have roller-shutter type doors that roll into the side of the cupboard. This makes them much more reliable and user-friendly than the type that roll upwards into the top of the cupboard. Because the doors roll into the side of the cupboard they take up much less space that traditional filing cupboards or swing door cupboards, which both require considerable free space in front to open them. Tambour cupboards are general purpose office storage cupboards that can be configured for virtually any purpose. They are particularly useful as office filing cupboards, because in many cases the shelves are pre-configured to accept lateral, hanging files. In terms of storage space they can be more efficient that traditional filing cabinets. You can also buy special shelves and fitments for specific purposes, for example computer media, cheque books and paying-in books. They are multi-purpose, in that a single shelf can have hanging files underneath and, for example, box files on the shelf.

Tambour cupboards are available in a wide range of sizes, from desk height to full ceiling height, and in various widths. For greater strength and rigidity the carcases are normally made from welded sheet steel, but flat-packed versions are also available for locations where it would be difficult to deliver the pre-built models. The carcases are available in all the standard office furniture metallic finishes, for example grey, black, white, aluminium and graphite. The doors can be in any of these colours and can also be obtained with standard wood finishes found on normal office desks, for example beech, cherry, maple, oak etc. All tambour cupboards should have a strong security locking mechanism.
Wood - or melamine-faced MDF with a wood finish -cupboards are also available on the executive office furniture market, but these tend to be more expensive and are usually built to order and therefore have a longer delivery lead time.
Because of their flexibility and ease of use, tambour cupboards have become a very popular solution to general purpose office storage problems.
