A Buyers Guide to Modular Desks

A modular office desk is one which usually forms part of a group of desks in a large office or open plan environment. They are often organised into clusters, corresponding to workgroups in the organisation. You often find modular desks in a back-to-back configuration with desktop screens as separators and possibly tool bars for fixing monitors and other equipment.

Â

When specifying modular office furniture you should think about choosing a range which can be moved and re-configured easily as your organisation evolves. You must also consider the longevity of the manufacturer and the range – you will almost certainly need to buy additional desks in the future and you certainly don't want to find that they are unavailable.

Â

A good starting point in modular office furniture 4Most range from GDB Design. This range offers a very wide selection of desktop shapes and sizes, as well as the possibility of having shared-leg configurations in certain cases – this can save both space and money. This range of desks includes may different symmetrical and asymmetrical wave shapes with the 4Most Modular Deskadded advantage of the availability of desktop returns and fixed drawer units to match the wave shapes. These desks have a metal frame and a four-leg design, with the metalwork available in Aluminium or Graphite finish. The desktops are available in both HPC and standard melamine finish, in Grey, White, Beech, Oak, Pear, Cherry or Apple finish. A nice touch in this range is that there are standalone and managerial desks available in the same designs and finishes as the modular desks. This range is completed by desk extension units which can be used for meeting areas and they also have specifically designed screens to match the range.

Â

Further up the range is the 4Ever modular range, also from GDB design. This is a designer range with individual square legs. These legs are available in three different styles, the standard square leg, a height adjustable leg, and unusually for a desk range a leg on castors. They are also 4everavailable in four different colours, Aluminium, Graphite, Mouse Grey and Copper. Tops are available in Light Oak, French Apple and Pear. These desks are fully cable managed and are available as individual units or pre-configured clusters.
